Tulsa Mountain Bike TEAM

Meet the team

We are a group of friends who love to ride. Team LUNA Chix Tulsa Mt Biking all started about 4 years ago with a couple of girls that wanted to reach out and get more women involved in the sport of Mt biking. As a team we are passionate about Mt biking and the great outdoors. Taking women out on the trails is an empowering experience for all of us.  Most of us know someone (directly or indirectly) who has been impacted by Breast Cancer and by supporting the Breast Cancer Fund, we are making a difference in the prevention of Breast Cancer.

All proceeds from our events support the Breast Cancer Fund.

I started mountain biking in 2010 and met several of the Tulsa LUNA Chix on the trails. I'm so excited to now be a part of the team! I'm looking forward to helping empower more women to get out there and build their skills, all while supporting the Breast Cancer Fund.

Even though I'm a flatlander, my heart has always been in the mountains. Some people go to church for their spiritual experience, but I find mine in the mountains, animals and nature in general. I grew up riding horses and skiing and I guess that's where it all started. I love being outdoors in most any context whether it be skiing, diving, backpacking, camping, hiking with my dog, or most recently mountain biking and road biking. My favorite outdoor experience was participating in an Outward Bound wilderness expedition in Colorado during the summer of 2006. Alpine skiing has been my true love for as long as I can remember, but mountain biking is putting up a good fight these days. I had done a lot of hiking on our local trails with an outdoor club, and in the fall of 2007 I decided to try the trails from another angle. I started mountain biking occasionally with a group of guys from work (thankfully very patient guys). I hadn't been on a bike for nearly 20 years so it was very challenging considering our trails are very technical. But the high you get from conquering a really hard obstacle is indescribable, and so I kept on trying. Finally in the spring of 2009 I committed to riding more frequently, met up with the BOMB (Babes on Mountain Bikes) girls and really started advancing my skills from their coaching. 2010 has been a year of big growth for me (thanks mostly to my new 29'er!), and though I still have a long ways to go, I can now ride terrain I never dreamed I could. The ladies from Team LUNA Chix Tulsa really helped me progress and learn new skills, and eventually invited me to join in on the fun. I am thrilled to have the chance to help other ladies experience the exhilaration and empowerment that comes from mountain biking. Many times I am learning right alongside them! I am equally excited to help raise funds for such a worthy cause as the Breast Cancer Fund. The best part about this team is that we have a blast doing both things. I look forward to continually improving my mtb skills, putting them into practice at fun destinations like Crested Butte or even the French Alps (why not dream big?!), and maybe even getting a few races under my belt.

My favorite workout is mountain biking. I ride a Santa Cruz 29-er bike and I love it! Turkey Mountain is 3 miles from my house and it's a very technical place to learn to MTB. Thank goodness we've got Shelly, LaDonna & Merit some amazing women to teach the rest of us. I enjoy traveling and riding different terrain. I love a challenge!

My boyfriend races cyclocross and mountain bikes. I watched and said to myself, I can do this! After a lot of shameless begging, he got me a mountain bike for Christmas in 2008. I rode by myself a bit, and then I met some ladies at his races. I started riding with them and met other gals, and here we are! I had lots of help from some of our original members. Now I get to get to pay it forward. I started racing in 2010 and did six races! In 2011 I did another six! in 2012, I did 8! I have also completed two cyclocross races, an XTERRA duathlon, a marathon, a half marathon, a 25K trail race, two 15k races, and several 5k races. I will leave cyclocross to the young fit gals! Favorite parts of being a LUNA Chick? Getting new girls on bikes, raising money for BCF and spreading the LUNA love!

Most favorite thing.., simply being outdoors, enjoying biking, kayaking, hiking. It is great to have a trail system (over 60 miles of single track technical trails) at Turkey Mt, right here in Urban Tulsa. I am lucky to share my love of the outdoors and Mt biking with my husband and a great group of girls.

I have been mountain biking and road biking for years. I don’t race, but love to go to bike races and support friends and teammates. I love camping, hiking, trail running and being outdoors.

It has been one fantastic year as part of the Tulsa Luna Mountain Biking Team, and as an ambassador for Luna and the BCF. We were busy with rides, clinics, helping host/sponsor races, yoga events, and even treating our dedicated supporters to a thank you party; all of which made for a fun and fantastic season that went be too quickly. I'm so psyched for the 2013 season which is ready to launch next month. When I'm not our riding my bike (with the ladies) I can be found on my bike solo, or with my family in tow. I'm also an instructor of fashion design at Clary Sage College here in Tulsa. Designing clothes is one of my passions and I'm blessed to have as a job that which allows me to share that with fresh minds wanting to learn more about design. In fact last year I designed custom "tube tops" for everyone on the team, from recycled bike inner tubes.
