This is my 3rd year as a Team LUNA Chix member, and I am so excited. Throughout my life, I never considered myself "sporty." Then I decided to go for a bike ride one day, and I rode 20 miles! And I had a ton of fun!
I started to ride with friends who challenged me to go further, faster, and up a few more hills. Before I knew it, I was signing up for multiple-day rides, and I was accomplishing things I never thought I could do - like biking over a mountain pass! So, for anyone who has ever been afraid that they could not accomplish something, believe me, anything is possible.
My new challenge this year will be learning how to meld my love of cycling with being a new mom. My son just turned 1, so finding time to cycle is tough! My hope is that with the support of ladies like these LUNA Chix, I will have no problem balancing motherhood with sport and returning to my pre-baby fitness level.
I hope to see you out there riding with the LUNA Chix this season. Keep on pedaling!
I am so excited for my first season with the LUNA Chix Cycle Team.
I work for a large outdoor retailer where I am constantly exposed to people doing new things and taking on new adventures; had it not been for my co-workers I may have never been encouraged to get on a bike as a fun way to socialize with friends, rather than having my bike collect dust. After getting out on a few rides with friends I discovered the road bike; and it was a game changer!
Since getting a road bike I have enjoyed exploring Seattle and the surrounding area in a whole new way. I have also completed several triathlons and participated on several bike rides of varying distances, including the very popular RSVP.
This year, I am looking forward to meeting fellow cycling enthusiast of all levels and having a great season of riding, sharing, and learning from each other!
I am going into the third year of LUNA Chix. Being part of a group of women that provides a venue for women to get out and play, riding our bikes, learning about our bikes, meeting new friends to bike with and finding new routes to enjoy. It has been wonderful! And it's all in a supportive environment. I have cycled for many years and continue to enjoy all the wonderful trails/routes and bike friendly atmosphere. The Northwest offers so many fun events. It is great to get on the bike and go enjoy the outdoors. I want to share the passion, to encourage women to participate in the fun of cycling.
I am delighted to be on Team LUNA Chix this year! I am so excited to share my love of cycling and help women discover enjoyment in physical activity. I am a Registered Dietitian, so I have had an interest in health for many years, but for some reason, for most of my life I thought that the only way I could exercise was by running. I didn't like running, so I wasn't that active. But then a group of people in Montana introduced me to road cycling. I was hooked and to my surprise, I saw how much fun being active could be!
Now, I am the first to say that though I have ridden in a variety of events (and some were pretty tough!), I am not an aggressive cyclist. I don't particularly care about how fast I ride or how far I go, but I do like to move, and I want others to find happiness in movement every day too. You don't have to have a desire to be a competitive cyclist to enjoy being on a bike. It's fun on it's own (come ride with us and you'll see!). Cycling has opened so many doors for me, and I am glad to have the opportunity to give back and introduce others to this incredible lifestyle. I've developed new friendships, noticed the outdoors in ways I never had before, and built confidence in my strength and capabilities. And can you believe that I recently started running too? I give credit to cycling for starting me on a path to lifelong success!
I am really looking forward to this being a banner year filled with lots of new cycling adventures with an amazing community of women. To be part of the Seattle LUNA Cycling team and having the opportunity to support the Breast Cancer Fund is really exciting. I hope to share my passion for cycling with other women and create many new friendships along the way. My goal is always to enjoy the ride and finish with a smile on my face.
2013 will be my first year with the Seattle Luna Chix and I am SUPER excited to join such a strong group of women. I first started road biking after I graduated from college back in the late '90s. Since then I've ridden thousands of miles including two AIDS Rides (300 and 550 milers), several MS 150 events, metric centuries and everything in between. There is no better feeling than being clipped into my pedals, feeling the wind on my face and knowing I can conquer whatever the next mile might bring - just me, my bike, and the road. Trying to transfer this feeling into everyday life is a little harder but worth the challenge!
This is my third year as a Luna Chix team member and I am excited for the new season. We have a lot of rides and events on the schedule this year. So come out, get some exericse, improve your biking skills or your endurance, meet like minded women, and most important, have fun!
Please also join us in supporting the Breast Cancer Fund. We all have been touched by this disease in some way, let's find a way to prevent it.
This is my 6th year as a LUNA Chix.
I have been a part of the world of cycling for roughly 9 years now and I keep amazing myself everyday. I have learned throughout my time on my bike that process of setting goals and reaching them is the most amazing power I have. My hope is to encourage women to learn what they are capable of, then support them in reaching their goals. I am looking forward to being a part of team that can raise women's interest in the world of cycling and bring people out to enjoy new experiences.
Now in my sixth year as a member of Team LUNA Chix, my excitement for each season is greater every year. Being a part of the LUNA Chix team has taught me that I am are always capable of more than I think! I have enjoyed the opportunity to support women in their atheletic pursuits and help them achieve goals they never thought were possible.
I am so proud to be a part of this team and share my passion for riding with other women in Seattle. I am pleased to support the Breast Cancer Fund through our LUNA Chix activities, in memory of my mom and in honor of my grandma who are both breast cancer survivors.
Keep pushing yourself with new experiences and challenging goals.
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do".- Eleanor Roosevelt
As a child I fondly remember getting my first banana seat bike with a basket and tassels. I loved the feel of racing through the streets and pushing up the hills. After the birth of my daughter I decided that I needed to find a new sport to ignite the fires within! I needed a sport that let me escape, that made me feel like a kid again.
Supported by my husband (my mechanic) and brother (cycling coach), I started riding my trusty college bike, a mountain bike with skinny tires, on the road. After my 1st race I decided that I really needed a great road bike because this was it, I found something to be passionate about!! Unfortunately, my new bike does not have a banana seat or tassels, but I tell you it goes a heck of a lot faster!
It is miraculous how such a seemingly small decision can change your life, I set out to look for a new sport and instead found an amazing community of women. People who are passionate about supporting women of all abilities and providing opportunities within the sport. From the instant I met this group of remarkable women I knew I wanted to be a part of the team. You see, I am a personal trainer by trade and my greatest satisfaction in life is supporting people so that they can reach their goals. I am so excited to be a part of Team Luna Chix and look forward for our rides to start!
I ride for those special women in my life, my mom because it is never too late and my daughter because it is never too early to try something new. I ride to raise awareness and funds for a disease that needs to be eradicated, breast cancer touches far too many lives.
I ride for myself!
