Seattle Cycle TEAM

Meet the team

We are a team of everyday women who love to ride our bikes. Dedicated to getting more women into sports and outside to play, we invite you to join us May through September on our free weekly rides on Wednesdays and some weekends.  Rides start from various locations around Seattle and the Eastside.  Whether you are dusting off your bike after years of inactivity or you are looking for other women to ride with, we’d love to have you come along.

This is my second year with Luna Chix and am really looking forward to this season. Last year was a great experience and I really enjoyed meeting all the wonderful women that came out for the ride. This year I am looking forward to helping more women learn how to improve their riding skills. Whether is be learning how to climb hills, finding the correct cadence for you, cornering, or simply finding your new favorite ride there is something for everyone. See you on the bike.

This is my first year as a member of Team LUNA Chix, but I've been riding and training with the Seattle LUNA Chix road cycling and triathlon teams for the past few years. I'm so grateful to the Seattle LUNA Chix teams for providing the opportunity to meet lots of wonderful new friends who are always willing to get outside and ride. I'm excited for the chance to give back to an organization that has given me so much.

I'm super excited to be a first year member of the Seattle Luna Chix Cycling team! I've been an avid cyclist for about 10 years starting out with triathlons back in 2000. While I still run triathlons, I readily admit that my favorite part is the bike leg. Over the years I've gotten more and more confident on my bike and I hope to evangelize the fun of cycling to women of all abilities in the Seattle area. And being a recent breast cancer survivor makes me even more passionate about being a part of the Luna Chix Cycling team and supporting the Breast Cancer Fund -- I'm convinced that awareness saved my life, and I want to give back however I can to continued education and awareness about breast cancer.

What can I say? I L-O-V-E cycling!...and getting other people excited about it is half the fun. I started cycling sixteen years ago at the age of 43 & it quickly became my passion. Now at 58, I am proof that you are never too old to get on a bike & ride. As I moved into the older age bracket, I have learned to let go (most of the time) of the need for speed. Now, I enjoy a more relaxing pace....one that allows me to take in the journey. I enjoy coaching women of all ages & especially love working with riders new to the sport. LUNA Chix is a perfect match for me. I love helping other women get excited about cycling, I believe in what LUNA stands for & am grateful for all that the the Breast Cancer Fund is doing to help eliminate this beast of a disease. I ride in memory of those that have lost their lives to cancer. I look forward to meeting women of all ages & abilities at our rides & other community events. I encourage you to join us. I am here to answer questions, work with you on learning to ride safer, smarter & with more confidence. Together we CAN make a difference!! Mom....here's to you!! You can beat it!

I've been biking all my life but didn't really get excited about doing distance road biking until I moved to Alaska, and met a women who encouraged me to start bike commuting, although I skipped commuting in the winter in Fairbanks when I moved to Seattle I was excited to be able to ride year round on roads that were accessible and with friendlier drivers. For the past three years I've been ridding year round, and in 2008 I rode the STP by myself and enjoyed it so much that in 2009 I convinced a friend who I occasionally Mountain biked with to train and ride the STP and as word got out that I was riding with one friend three more decided they also wanted to ride with us, eventually 5 of us rode the STP in 2009 making up team Flat Tires. After the STP my brother and a good girl friend of mine rode down the Oregon coast for two weeks. The past three years have been a fantastic growth and learning experience for me and my biking knowledge has expanded considerably, I'm extremely excited to be a part of the 2010 Luna Chix cycling team!

I am a first year LUNA Chix. I am excited to be part of a group of women that provides a venue for women to get out and play, riding our bikes, learning about our bikes, meeting new friends to bike with and finding new routes to enjoy, all in a supportive environment. I’ve cycled for many years. I moved to the Northwest over 9 years ago. I adore all the wonderful cycling trails/routes and the bike friendly atmosphere. The Northwest also offers so many fun events. I have participated in several of the recreational supported cycling events and last year, I had the opportunity to complete a couple of road races and a few time trials. I love getting on my bike and enjoying the outdoors. I want to share the passion, encourage women to participate in the fun of cycling, to stay active and be healthy.

This is my third year as a LUNA Chix. I have been a part of the world of cycling for roughly 6 years now and I keep amazing myself everyday. I have learned throughout my time on my bike that process of setting goals and reaching them is the most amazing power I have. My hope is to encourage women to learn what they are capable of, then support them in reaching their goals. I am looking forward to being a part of team that can raise women's interest in the world of cycling and bring people out to enjoy new experiences.

This is my third year as a member of Team LUNA Chix and I am proud to be a part of this team and share my passion for riding with other women in Seattle. I am pleased to support the Breast Cancer Fund through our LUNA Chix activities, in memory of my mom and in honor of my grandma who are both breast cancer survivors. Being a part of the LUNA Chix team has taught me that I am are always capable of more than I think! I have enjoyed the opportunity to support women in their atheletic pursuits and help them achieve goals they never thought were possible. Keep pushing yourself with new experiences and challenging goals. "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do".- Eleanor Roosevelt

As a child I fondly remember getting my first banana seat bike with a basket and tassels. I loved the feel of racing through the streets and pushing up the hills. After the birth of my daughter I decided that I needed to find a new sport to ignite the fires within! I needed a sport that let me escape, that made me feel like a kid again. Supported by my husband (my mechanic) and brother (cycling coach), I started riding my trusty college bike, a mountain bike with skinny tires, on the road. After my 1st race I decided that I really needed a great road bike because this was it, I found something to be passionate about!! Unfortunately, my new bike does not have a banana seat or tassels, but I tell you it goes a heck of a lot faster! It is miraculous how such a seemingly small decision can change your life, I set out to look for a new sport and instead found an amazing community of women. People who are passionate about supporting women of all abilities and providing opportunities within the sport. From the instant I met this group of remarkable women I knew I wanted to be a part of the team. You see, I am a personal trainer by trade and my greatest satisfaction in life is supporting people so that they can reach their goals. I am so excited to be a part of Team Luna Chix and look forward for our rides to start! I ride for those special women in my life, my mom because it is never too late and my daughter because it is never too early to try something new. I ride to raise awareness and funds for a disease that needs to be eradicated, breast cancer touches far too many lives. I ride for myself!

This is my third season as a member of the Seattle Cycling - team Luna Chix. I began riding shortly after moving to Seattle in 2005 in order to train for an olympic distance triathlon. It didn't take long before I was hooked. My re-introduction to cycling reminded me of all of the fun I had as a kid cruising around the streets of my neighborhood on my neon yellow and orange huffy. After completing the tri. I ventured into the realm of mountain biking, and today ride both DH and XC. I also began working as a bike mechanic. I have enjoyed being part of the cycling industry ever since! I love helping women learn to overcome their fears with regard to their bikes - be it riding them, maintaining them, or making them run smoothly!
