Cinco de Mayo Sombrero Ride - ¡Olé!
"/>

For Cinco de Mayo, Performance Bike in Bonita, CA hosted Team LUNA Chix San Diego for the first ever Sombrero Ride in the South Bay. Roger and Javier from Performance were on hand bright and early to give our bikes a professional check-over, make any recommendations, and assist with any last minute needs. Big shout out to the guys at Performance Bike in Bonita, CA!

This ride was almost as much fun thinking about as it was actually doing. When we were planning the ride, and I mentioned a Cinco de Mayo ride, it was only a matter of seconds before Jacqueline suggested we have Clif Margarita Shot Bloks on hand. Riding the wave, another girl suggested we serve them in shot glasses. It was the perfect touch.

The morning started off chilly, but it soon warmed up as the marine layer from the Pacific burned off. We were in for a glorious day!

We had a great group of riders. Even though one of our girls had a flat and we were a bit delayed, nothing could detract from the beautiful ride and good company.

When we returned to the bike shop, Carmen was on hand with the best tamales I have ever had in my life. Carmen helped us with a mini Breast Cancer Fund fundraiser by selling tamales after the ride, with fifty cents of every tamale sale going to the BCF. Donny’s Cafe also pitched in, donating $25 in Donny’s gift cards. With the help of Donny’s Cafe, Carmen’s tamales, and donations from our riders and passers-by, we raised $120 for the Breast Cancer Fund that morning. Big thanks to everyone!

Uh-oh. No more Margarita Shot [bloks] for you!

Cinco de Mayo means a lot of different things for people who live in San Diego, but for me, it means a day I can wear my sombrero and serape and still blend in.

OK, so, not so much.
