Katerina Nash and Amy Dombroski took 4th and 9th respectively at the Cyclocross World Cup finals in Hoogerheide, Holland last weekend. Both athletes' astounding rides were not without incidence. After an early race crash, Katerina picked competitors off like Stallone in Rambo II to cross the line in 4th place.
Amy took the 9th, the best World Cup finish of her career. And like Katerina, 'Lil D's race was not without muddy tales. Her words say it all about peanut butter-like conditions: "As we approached the left hand drop, I stayed wide down and through the mud bog. Out of the corner of my good eye I saw carnage on the left and moved clear of it. Off of the 2nd pavement section, more carnage on the right. This time, unfortunately I saw Katerina’s bike sailing in the air, and narrowly avoided girls flailing in the mud as I kissed the barriers on the left. I steadily worked my way to the front of the race and found myself sitting 4th place by the time I hit the 2nd lap."
