The LUNA Pro Team kicks off the new year with a big bang- Katerina Nash wins the Cyclocross World Cup in Roubaix, France! This was "Katka's" first World Cup win in her career, soundly beating the closest competitor, German Hanka Kupfernagel. Could this be foreshadowing of the World Cyclocross Championships in Czech in a couple weeks?
LUNA Chix newcomer Amy Dombroski crossed the line in 14th, the 2nd American finisher and a solid result from the team's promising newcomer.
Katerina was so excited she couldn't sleep. Her words say it all:
"I'm sitting with many good memories flying through my head...I couldn't even fall asleep last night!
I had a great ride on Saturday winning my very first world cup race. It was a cool ride and I honestly don't even remember all the details of it. I was focused on doing well and couple of crashes didn't even faze me. It was great to enter the famous track with a good gap to enjoy last few meters. It was so cool to see Waldek in the finish with a big smile. I have started my 9th season with the LUNA team and I feel like this victory was a good way to say THANK you for the support I have been getting over the years.
My whole family got to watch my race live on Czech TV. The funny thing is that it was only the second race that the Czech TV station decided to cover for women's racing. When I say my whole family, I mean lot of people in family and extended family. My mom called grandparents and they called others and they all cheered in front of TV.
The Czech double with Zdenek Stybar winning men's race made for some interesting pub activities as well as good profits from alcohol beverages.
I think my fan club for The World Championship in Tabor increased in size dramatically after this weekend. It should be a good time. I have one more World Cup in Belgium this weekend before heading back to Czech for the big final race."
