Katerina sweeps weekend with two cyclocross victories in Providence, RI

Providence, RI (October 5- 6, 2013)

LUNA long-timer Katerina Nash won the Day 1 elite women’s race at the Shimano NEPCX Providence Cyclo-cross Festival, with Elle Anderson behind in second, with Katie Compton finishing up for third.*

The same three star players jumped from the start line and did not turn around on their quest to Pass Go. Meredith Miller and Crystal Anthony initially worked together to rein in the breakaway, but only in vain.

After resting up behind Katie Compton, Katerina attacked after a third lap rise. Grand Prix of Gloucester winner Anderson and nine-time US Champ Compton could barely close the gap. Even with a small crash towards the end of the 40+ minute event, Nash managed to hold her lead to same Go box and collect $200, Crossopoly metaphorically speaking.

There were 58 starters in the highly competitive women’s elite field. Elite racers competed this weekend for series points in the Shimano New England Professional Cyclocross Series presented by Verge.

“Katka”, as her family and friends in Czech Republic call her, was still spinning from her recent win at ‘Cross Vegas in Nevada.

Final Results Day 1:

1 Katerina Nash 43:24
2 Elle Anderson 00:07
3 Katie Compton 00:09
4 Meredith Miller 00:55
5 Crystal Anthony 01:06

* Note: Georgia Gould and Teal Stetson Lee are taking a short, recuperative break from racing and are expected to return very soon.

Katerina Nash took the limelight again by winning Providence on a slippery Sunday course with a late race attack, crossing the line 12 seconds ahead of Katie Compton and Helen Wyman, who were second and third respectively.

Nash was in the early lead mix of four, consisting of the final podium finishers and their new friend Elle Anderson.

Katerina attacked frequently and finally managed to stick a last lap post-run-up attack (this was strategic because most folks get a extra tired after run-ups!). This final effort would help her win in solo fashion, her third victory in her three ‘cross attempts of the season.

Katerina commented afterwards, "I tried to be conservative in the sketchy sections of the course and not take any unnecessary chances on the course. I went for it on the few sections of the course where you could pedal really hard and in the end it was enough."

Final Results Day TWO

1 Katerina Nash 37:39
2 Katie Compton 00:12
3 Helen Wyman 00:31
4 Elie Anderson 00:47
5 Meredith Miller 01:05

Next on the schedule for Katerina will be the Cincy3 Lionhearts International – Cross After Dark Mason, OH on November 2nd.

Nash recently announced that she will continue to race cyclocross and cross country MTB domestically in 2014, which is great news for all her friends, fans, and our LUNA Pro Team sponsors!
