Hoogerheide Cyclocross World Cup Finals

Hoogerheide, The Netherlands (January 22nd, 2017)

Boasting two victories and consistent results this cyclocross season, Katerina Nash finished the UCI World Cup series in third overall, after her seventh place ride at the Hoogerheide finals.

Clif Pro teammate Eva Lechner also raced extremely well throughout the season, taking fifth overall after her 14th place result in Hoogerheride.

Canadian national 'cross champion Maghalie Rochette joined in the team in preparation for the world championships. The 24-year old raced powerfully and finished in 18th place in the 74 deep elite field.

Marianne Vos solo'd to win her third straight World Cup victory on a fast and unforgiving course. To complete a Dutch sweep of the podium, Lucinda Brand and Anne-Marie Worst followed for second and third respectively.. Sophie de Boer was behind in seventh but had already secured overall World Cup victory last week in Fiuggi, Italy.

Organized by former cyclo-cross world champion Adrie van der Poel of The Netherlands, it has been part of the World Cup calendar every year since 2005 with the exceptions of 2009 and 2014 when the Dutch venue hosted the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships.

As with most cyclocross races, the first lap was chaotic while riders established their positions. Vos immediately got up front and avoided some crashes, including that of world champ Thalita De Jong, who eventually pulled out of the race with an injured knee.

Both Katerina & Eva succumbed to the chain of crash events, getting slipped up with Chiara Teocchi, Lise-Marie Henzeli, Nikki Brammeier, and Katie Compton. At the end of this hectic second lap, six leaders were front, including Vos, Cant, Brand, Worst, De Boer and Laura Verdonschot.

Katerina and Eva managed to work their way back to the front groups, but could not make up the difference on the fast course. Regardless, Katerina once again stepped on the world cup podium, and took home some flowers.

Posting a photo with her flowers, Katerina commented, "Some days don't work out as you would like, but if there is a flower at the end of it I call it a good day. Little tumble and a flat tire during the last World Cup...Luckily I've crashed enough in my career and I'm really good at getting up fast!!!! I'm very happy to earn 3rd for the World Cup overall. Thank you (Cross Vegas organizers) for starting the season in Vegas and for being a super supporter of cross!"

Eva also reported, "Not my best race today crash, which made me lose the leading group... and on that fast track today impossible to get back! Anyway good!"
