Pro Team Race Reports
Georgia and Teal second and sixth at the USGP Cyclocross series

September 22nd, 2012 (Sun Prairie, WI) Georgia Gould continued her season tear to finish in second place at the US Gran Prix (USGP) #1 and #2 cyclocross races, while claiming valuable UCI C1 points. Georgia blamed her self-described weakness in “roadie tactics”.

Teal Stetson Lee, seemingly recovered from a tough summer of injuries as well as Interbike, took sixth place both days.

Katie Compton won both Saturday and Sunday’s events.

According to Georgia on Cyclingnews, "I don't have that super zippy attack, punch it out of every corner. I'm definitely not blaming my start. Katie (Compton) is ready for World Cups. Her season is just starting, and she's fast, fast... My strength is more (about) riding hard and steady. I didn't want to leave it down to ‘just sit with these guys and sprint at the end.’ If anybody noticed my fantastic roadie tactics at Cross Vegas, well, I might need a little bit of tutoring in that department."

And Teal had some thoughts about her hectic week as well:

"Cross Vegas was a real shock to the system, I feel like no matter how well you train for cyclocross season there is nothing that fully prepares you for the initial deep suffering of the first race. I had a bit of a weak start and then tried my best to hang onto the front group for as long as possible. The race was fast and furious and felt like a crit on thick shag carpet. I was pretty happy with my finish, given that road racing skills are my weakness still. I held on for dear life with the yo-yoing efffect of quick pack accelerations and slow bottle necking through corners and into barrier sections. After a couple of laps I was popped off the back and struggled to keep a consistant pace. It paid off as other women began to blow up and go backwards rapidly. On the final lap I was riding with two other stragglers and I was able to attack them on the final climb and ride away to finish 12th."

"The rest of the week unfolded with a long day of Interbiking, a quick, intense foosball tournament, a glamourous Vegas night, and then a full travel day to Madison, WI for the first USGP of Cyclocross."

"Madison turned out to be a great weekend of racing. With the first race out of the way and under my belt I lined up with confidence. On both Saturday and Sunday I still was not impressed with my slow starts off the second row, however, I managed to ride strong and smooth and work my way up into 6th place both days. I focused on taking smart, stealth lines on the course and riding with focus and power. I only made a couple small mistakes, dropping a chain on Saturday and taking myself out in a silly crash on a corner on Sunday. It was great riding with Georgia (who generously let me suck her wheel for as long as I could hold on). She took 2nd both days. My only regret from the Madison USGP was that I was a little over exerted to be able to take a bacon or pie feed on the run-up."
