Racer Bikes Cup - Winterthur, SUI

In my first Racer Bikes Cup (“Racer” is a bike company here in Europe, which makes the name of the series seem just a tad more sensible), I finished 21st out of 42 starters.  The course was very different than anything I’ve experienced yet in the US but I think it suited my riding style pretty well.  I tend to ride over my limit, on more occasions than I’m really capable of, and before it really counts.  My goal for Racer Bikes Cup #2 is to pace myself, and still have something left in the tank for the last lap or two.  So, for the brief race report:

Consistent with my racing style, I started the Winterthur race a little too hard.  I was 15th up the first climb, rode in 18th for laps 2-3, and then finished up in 21st.  The course had some steep climbing, and flat road sections.  There was always an opportunity to pedal so I didn’t get to rest much.  Our number plates had our names clearly visible on the front, which I think is pretty cool and something I’d like to see in the U.S.  I heard quite a few renditions of my name on the course (from spectators!), and there was even a beer tent at the top of the climb where there was some serious heckling and noise making going on.  Oh, did I mention the course was only 5 km long?  I was a little concerned about losing count of my laps during the race but thankfully they had a lap counter through the start/finish area.  Overall, I’m pleased with the race experience.  Thanks for reading (“Danka”).
