A Holiday Orbea USA Visit
On my way to Detroit for the holidays, my husband Zane, Igby- my super dog, and I broke up the 1500 mile expedition into segments. The first segment gave us the opportunity to stop at Orbea LLC. I wanted to say thank you for the years of support, check out the new “goodies” coming out in 2010, and to pick up a gift that Santa (or sneaky wife Terra) left for my husband. A NEW MOUNTAIN BIKE! We arrived mid morning on Monday to find Justin, Suzanne, and the rest of the Orbea family enjoying Starbucks coffee and pastries.Gotta love those in the coffee loving family! Our eyes were drawn to Zane’s bike which was parked by the doorway- A beautiful full suspension Occam Team ready to roll! It was awesome to see him so excited. We now are a complete mountain bike family which is really exciting. Many crazy fun dirt adventures to come! An official tour was next- Zane headed off with Justin to see the Team Diabetic bikes and talk “shop” while Suzanne showed me the new ORCA speedsuits. WOW! I fell in love with the suit on the spot! I used the Orca 3.8 wetsuit at Ironman Arizona and found my shoulders were very happy to have the flexibility and movement that the suit allowed. We also got to talk about the new line of Compression wear Orca has designed. Igby got a ‘mini’ tour of the dog friendly office. Everybody brought out their dog photos and Igby LOVED being the center of attention (especially because 20 hours in the car is not fun for a high energy terrier mix!) After a few photos and our good byes, Zane and I had to become “engineers” to get in 2 mountain bikes, a dog crate, our bags and a hyper dog into a small Pontiac Vibe Wagon. One must note that our roof rack is broken thanks to me driving into our carport a few years ago. This fact always makes car packing a bit more challenging. Stopping by Orbea was great! Especially since they have become a big part of the LUNA PRO TEAM family! Next stop for the Castro clan was STARBUCKS because we had 9 hours in the car till Louisville, KY, our next expedition segment. NOTE: we did make it to Detroit safely, before the Holidays- though thrown in was a MUDDY/WET Mountain bike ride where I had my first official crash! Louisville, KY- home to Terra’s first try on muddy single track. I tried to ride over a log, which meant I went down and head banged a tree. Once bucked off, I was back on the horse!
