Diana has been riding mountain bikes for almost 20 years and has been road riding for the past 10. She has ridden her bike in 8 states and 3 Canadian provinces and is happiest when she is spending time outside. When she is not riding, she can be found jogging, hiking, kayaking, working part time as an engineer or chasing around her three year-old daughter, Amelia. After spending most of her time doing child focused activities lately, she is ready to hit the mud in her first season with the Luna Chix.

Meet the team
Team LUNA Chix New York Mountain Bike is a diverse group of six women who share a passion for cycling and other outdoor activities. We began in 2007 as a group of women who wanted to give back to the community by introducing other women to the sport of mountain biking. We also do some road riding and promote cycling in Upstate New York. All proceeds from our events support the Breast Cancer Fund. |

Madeleine (Maddie) started riding bikes about 8 years ago when a friend gave her an old road bike. Finishing her first century ride a year later, she knew she was hooked! A few years ago a group of her friends started going mountain biking after work and she found her true loves: dirt and battle scars! The last two years she raced in the Xterra off-road triathlon point series, placing 2nd in the Northeast in her division both years, qualifying and racing at Nationals in Lake Tahoe. This year, having finally admitted that she does not likes swimming and never will, she plans to race her road bike and do as many cross-country mountain bike races as possible! When she is off her bike (which isn't often), Maddie loves rock climbing, ice hockey, snowshoe racing and anything to do with horses! Samantha

After being introduced to triathlon in 1994, Stephanie knew she wanted to spend everyday training and trying to become a better athlete. She completed her first Ironman in 1997. She went on to complete a total of six Ironman Triathlons and finally made it to Kona, Hawaii for the World Championships in 2001. After taking several years off from triathlon, Stephanie switched gears in 2009 and started mountain biking and competing in off road triathlons. Team Luna Chix's was instrumental in getting her off road and teaching her new mountain bike skills. This is Stephanie's first year as a member of Team Luna Chix and she hopes to find more to love about mountain biking whether its pushing to a new level in training or to encourage women of all ages to get involved in the sport. Theresa found her way onto the dirt several years ago when she started biking with her husband. Despite the bumps & bruises along the way, she loved the challenge and has been hooked for several years now. Theresa enjoys pushing herself to the limits as a solo 24-hour racer and aspires to finish every race she enters. When she's not on a bike, Theresa keeps herself busy playing with her three year old daughter Sydney, working as an instrumental music teacher and baking up treats in the kitchen. She strives to be an inspiration to women so they can understand they have the ability to accomplish anything they set out to do and holds Team LUNA Chix as an amazing opportunity to impact women in a sport that holds a meaningful attraction (ok addiction) for her. I love mountain biking. I also love road biking, bike commuting, being outdoors, eating, drinking delicious craft brewed beer, and spending time with my friends and family. When something excites me I like to share it with others. Being a member of Team LUNA Chix is one way I share my love of biking by helping other women to find healthy, positive ways to enjoy being outdoors and active. I have big plans for 2010! However, this year also presents new challenges. After giving birth to my daughter Madeline in February, I am balancing being a new mom, getting back in shape, and working to meet new fitness goals this summer and fall. I plan on doing a lot more road biking to get back and shape and to gain better endurance for mountain biking and racing. I want to do my first road bike century ride this year, compete in more local mountain races, and do the Vermont 50 in September! See you on the trails! |
