Minneapolis Triathlon TEAM

Amy Miller

I am Amy, the team leader for Team LUNA Chix in Minneapolis. I have been doing triathlons for the last 4 seasons. When I started I had never run more than a 5k, but a friend pushed me, helped me train and got me hooked! Ever since I has been helping other people get into the sport. I especially like helping people who never thought a triathlon would be something they could do. It is the greatest feeling to watch people beat their goals and surprise themselves by what they can achieve.

I am excited and honored to have this opportunity to get women involved in the sport. As well as have the opportunity to work with and train with great athletes in the Minneapolis and LUNA communities.

I am very excited for our 2nd season in Minneapolis!!

I'm living proof of the many ways physically, emotionally and spiritually, that working out and the challenges of racing can change your life! I'm what you would call a late bloomer in the endurance sports - I started running in 2005 with a 10 miler, then a half marathon, then a marathon and then tri's. What I like best about the triathlons is that just when you start feeling like you're getting worn out doing something - you start with the next leg. I've never felt more proud of myself than when I cross the finish line. I may not be a podium finisher but I'm not last and am content to race as a "middle of the pack'er". **NEW** I did place 2nd in AG in the 2011 season!! In this 2nd year of our team, I'm excited to take on some more responsibilities and am a Co-leader for our team. I'm looking forward to this racing season and to bring more awareness to the Breast Cancer Fund and getting more women involved in the Twin Cities. Let's go Chix!

Hi I'm Elicia! I am a new member of the Luna Chix for 2012. I am vey excited to be apart of this team and to introduce more women to the multisport world. I have been running since I can remember and was involved in cross country and track growing up. I have always loved running and it is a passion of mine to this day. There is no better feeling than crossing that finish line with a sense of accomplishment and (lets be honest) getting that medal you worked so hard for! I was always interested in doing triathlons and in 2009 I competed in my first one; the Madison Ford Ironman which was a learning experience (to say the least) but I was hooked! I have since competed in the Lifetime Tri and my race calendar is filling up quickly for this year; 3 tri's, 1 half Ironman, 1/2 marathon and 1 marathon on the books already. I am honored and excited to be apart of the Luna Chix and looking forward to this race season!

Hey all. [You can call me EM -- to make things easier.]

Its sounds terrible, but injuries led me to triathlons. Distance running rehabbed a knee injury, & biking / swimming were alternatives to running...... but now I am healthy and thankful and seem to be hooked on all three.*****

A little about me: I ran cc and steeplechased in college --- so I have an appreciation for those gritty, hard-core, respect-demanding events. Although I've kept up my running and tri-training, I have missed that team motivation. Team atmosphere. As a team member of Luna Chix, I am super excited for the constant gung-ho, we-can-do-this-together, women-power energy. Definitely. Other tid bits: I have a math degree, but am now back in school for art. [Crazy, I know.] I love LOVE to explore. This past summer I hit up both Tanzania & Germany. [Marvelously fun.] & I very much enjoy anything outdoors {BWCAW is heaven to me].

Cheers & I cant wait. --EM

I'm Emily, a new member of the LUNA Chix for 2012.

I have been involved in triathlon (and duathlon, running, biking, etc) since 2006. My first race was an all-female duathlon and I couldn't believe the sense of accomplishment I felt after training for and finishing that race. I haven't stopped since.

I have completed over 30 triathlons and am planning a full season for 2012, which also includes running events and duathlons to keep things interesting. I enjoy the lifestyle of meeting up with friends to train, having a schedule to focus on, and sharing knowledge. I am looking forward to meeting more women in the Twin Cities who are involved with and interested in multisport.

Hi! I'm Kristen. I've been competing in triathlons for about 3 years. I've completed multiple Ironmans, Half-Ironmans, Olympic/International, and Sprint races and believe that each distance provides its own special experience. Let's be honest...I just love to race!! I'm very excited to be racing with Team LUNA Chix this year because I believe that the sport of triathlon is about community as much as it is about competing. I've found the triathlon community to be positive, energic, and generous...whether it be in providing training advice and encouragment and/or raising funds and awareness for great causes. Team LUNA Chix is a great example of this. I am honored to be a part of such a wonderful team and looking forward to a great season!

Hi, I'm Lisa, an outdoor enthusiast who loves challenging herself through fitness and adventure. Growing up in Canada in the mountains birthed my love for nature. I was the kid who tried everything and seemed to really find herself in sports. One of my life long goals was to one day do a triathlon and that became reality last year. Now I am hooked! I'm an avid road biker racking a lot miles each year on my blue Scott Speedster. Thanks to my Mom, I am a fish in the water but I certainly have worked hard to become a runner. When I'm not venturing outdoors or training I'm found working with adults who are legally blind making sure they become independent in life. I'm privileged to be a part of the Luna Chix team and continue to be forever inspired by women and sport.

Just like everyone who is a part of Luna Chix, I love being active. I love to run, swim, bike, cross country ski, snowboard and be outdoors. Most of all I love to physically challenge myself. I also enjoy getting others involved in races. I started running 12 years ago, finishing my first half-marathon. Five years ago, I convinced my 10 year old niece to do a 5k with me; since then, she has run several 10K’s. Whether it is getting coworkers to run with me over lunch or getting friends to bundle up and bike or run in the middle of the winter, the running, biking, swimming community is a positive, energizing experience!
