LUNA Chix host Cyclo Femme Ride - 05/13/12
On Mother’s Day, we had more than 50 women and men show up at the Rose Bowl in support of Cyclo Femme. You are probably wondering what is Cyclo Femme? Cyclo Femme is presented by Girl Bike Love. Their mission is to create a unified voice for women in cycling, encouraging and empowering more riders. By highlighting the health and environmental benefits, community building and positive social impact that cycling can have on our world, they hope to engage more female riders. TO HONOR THE PAST and the emancipation of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, for the freedom to choose and the chance to wear pants. TO CELEBRATE THE PRESENT and the riders who keep it rolling, bringing women’s racing to the forefront, pushing the limits, breaking down barriers and sharing the love of the bike with everyone along the way. TO EMPOWER THE FUTURE of women in cycling and the opportunity for positive social change. Teach women to ride and they will change the world. LUNA Chix Dorothy Wong wanted to form a Cyclofemme ride in Los Angeles. She registered (organized) the ride so others who have the same passion could join us on May 13. There was a total of 163 rides in 14 countries. She did such an amazing job of getting the word out there and it was an awesome ride. She ordered Cyclo Femme t-shirts and cool Sock Guy socks that she sold with a portion of the money going to the Breast Cancer Fund. We did a celebratory loop around the Rose Bowl in Pasadena then discovered LA with a 30-40 mile ride down the Arroyo Seco and up the Los Angeles River (climbing option atop Elysian for an amazing view of the City of Angeles). We met more riders at the LA Historic Park for a 2nd meet up before we started the climb. Afterwards, everyone stopped for snacks at a French Bakery in Kenneth Village. What a wonderful ending to great day!! COMMENTS |
