Last Tuesday, Becca led a beautiful 15-mile ride past the rim of the
Rose Bowl to Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge. We had an
awesome turn-out of twelve participants and seven LUNA Chix. Deb went
over the Breast Cancer Fund before handing out yummy LUNA bars to the
participants. The group was divided into two riding levels: beginner
and intermediate. We are so proud of our participants for making the
climb to Descanso Gardens, a botanical garden that features one of
the largest collections of camellias. It’s definitely not an easy
route but we decided to try a more challenging route since they did so
well last week. As we headed back to the shop, we took a detour
through La Canada Verdugo Road, one of the wash trails near JPL and
the Devil’s Gate Dam. This lush flat trail draws birders, dog walkers,
and hikers along with cyclists. It’s a hidden treasure, rich in
wildlife and botanical resources and was a nice end to a fun ride.
I want to make a special mention to Pasadena Cyclery for being such an
awesome bike shop and reinforcing our decision for picking it as our
favorite local shop. One of the participants mentioned she needed air
for her front tire and went inside the store to get her tire pumped.
Ray, the mechanic at Pasadena Cyclery instantly noticed that her front
brake was rubbing her rim and quickly made the necessary adjustments
free of charge. He was concerned for her safety and made it a
priority to get it fixed before the ride started. She was really
appreciative of the time they took to make sure her bike was in
working order. A special thanks to Pasadena Cyclery for ensuring the
safety of our participants!!
