Running Background
I have always been a runner. The longest I had ever run through college was about 10 miles. In 2002 Kathy talked me into joining a running group with her friend Ann and started training for my first marathon. We ran Lake Tahoe. Kathy was sick the night before. We had made a pact to finish the race together no matter what. She struggled until the end and we finished somewhere in the 5 hour range. We tried again - Fort Collins Marathon in 2003 - this time Kathy was pregnant. Finished in 5:20. It continued from there. My goal was to finish a marathon in sub 4 hours. My sister and I ran the NYC Marathon later that year in 2003. I injured my knee and had to walk at the end but I finished. 4:10. Almost there!! I continued to run half marathons until 2005 when Kathy and her husband and I signed up to run Chicago. It finally happened!! I finished in 3:40 which qualified me for Boston. It was truly the best run of my life. I ran Boston in 2006 under 4 hours. My parents were there. I met an amazing woman on the bus to the start and we ran and finished together. It was one of the greatest life experiences. I took a little break from the marathon "circuit" and ran the Denver Rock' n' Roll last year. I am so excited about leading this team for several reasons. I love to run! Women truly are the greatest support system for each other in achieving athletic goals. I hope to learn from the women on this team and maybe they will learn something from me. Bonds are truly made when goals are shared and achieved!!. Most importantly, I joined this team because my mom has breast cancer. I think about her a lot when I run. She motivates me because she is one of the strongest women I know. It is so important that we raise awareness and have fun doing it!!

Running Background:
I have been a runner through playing team sports from 5 years old through college. New Year’s Eve 1999 a group of friends and I decided to run the Boston Marathon as bandits the following spring to finish college with a bang before heading our separate ways. There was a quote in the newspaper the day after the race that got me hooked, ‘no matter what time you cross the finish line, it will be the time of your life’. This quote has stayed with me through many races and adventures, and I look forward to sharing it with everyone I meet that has a race or goal to finish in their future.
About me:
In addition to running, my husband and I love to bike, hike and ski. I am excited to be a member of the Denver Team Luna Chix. Awareness for all cancers is something close to my heart and family. Early detection of breast cancer gave my grandmother an additional few years. I am looking forward to participating and bringing awareness to breast cancer while surrounded by great women in our community.
I started running in 6th grade on the Edison Middle School cross-country team and haven’t stopped since. I ran cross-country and track throughout high school and was a recruited walk-on for the UW Badgers in Madison, WI. Middle distances were my jam… think 800m, 1500m, and the mile. In my adult life, I’ve gotten into running road races including half-marathons and marathons. I taught high school special education for nine years and coached cross-country and track all of those years. Sharing my passion and knowledge of the sport while connecting with young runners has always been the best part of my day – no matter the day! As an administrator for Denver School of Science and Technology, my ties to running have come full circle; I lead a running club for the 6th grade wolves at DSST: College View on the southwest side of Denver. My favorite runs these days are on the trails with my husband and our dog, Miles. Here in Denver, I aspire to reach new heights and run PRs.
This is my third year with Denver Run, and my second year as the co-leader. A former gymnast, I started running just to stay in shape, but in 2008 a friend challenged me to run the Baltimore Marathon, and I naively said yes! We finished in 3:48, and I've been a marathoner ever since. I've had some ups and down with injuries and surgeries, but have had a good stretch recently. I ran the Boston Marathon in 2012, and will be competing in my first half-ironman this year! I've had a few notable races in the past few years, including: A 2nd place finish at the 2009 International Friendship 10K, a 2nd place age group finish at the 2009 Fiesta Half Marathon (both in McAllen, TX), and a recent 3rd place age group finish at the 2011 Rudolph Ramble 5K here in Denver. Recovering from surgery and learning to run at altitude were both humbling experiences, and have helped me to understand that what truly makes me happy is the opportunity to be part of an athletic community that is supportive and nurturing. I'm especially looking forward to our fundraising and charity involvement with the phenomenal Breast Cancer Fund, as my Nanna, Phylis Fox, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing treatment. I'll be doing a lot of running for her this year!

I started running my junior year of high school. My Grandpa told me I should join the cross country team because all my friends we on the team. My friends were shocked when they saw me at practice, but I ended up received most improved and dropping 10 minutes off my 5K time. I became more serious/ interested in running in 2008 when I ran my first half marathon. I have completed 4 half marathons and one full marathon. I love being outside, being healthy and running. I will be competing in another full marathon this October in Chicago. I’m most excited about this race because my parents and grandparents will be there.
I started running my freshman year in high school. My father encouraged me to "get in shape for basketball". I became a better runner than basketball player and went on to run in college. Since college, I have completed 4 marathons and I have never looked back. I love being outside, being healthy and running. I am married with 2 children and work full-time. My children have been on many training runs in the stroller and now riding their bike and carrying the water on some of our long runs. I live in Denver, Colorado and love to run on the Highline Canal, at Wash Park and on the Cherry Creek bike path. I am looking forward to being on this team and having some fun!
I ran casually while attending University in Montreal mainly to offset the freshman 15 that I was putting on! It was not until I was 24 that I really started getting serious about running. To help me overcome a difficult moment in my life, my sister sent me a book in the mail called The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer with a note challenging me to the 2002 Vancouver International Marathon. I took on the training with great enthusiasm, as did she from another city, and that’s how it all began. I grew up with an athletic father who completed 7 marathons, and was a remarkable squash player, hockey player, skier... I was always in awe of his accomplishments, but never aimed to meet them until then.
After the Vancouver International Marathon in 2002 (4:18:28), I went on to run the Napa Valley Marathon in 2003 (4:17:09) and then decided to finish one or two half marathons per year from then on out. My Personal Best was at the Oakland Running Festival in 2010, when I finished the half marathon in 1:45:32. I largely credit my extraordinary husband for that PB (he was my pacer until mile 12!)
I have three young kids and run three or four times per week. Running allows me to escape the everyday craziness that is my life… it also allows me to indulge in chocolate & champagne! I now run at a more leisurely pace, especially when pushing the jogging stroller and my goals are to complete 10M & half marathon distances at Denver’s high altitude!
I started running in college to become healthier. Rachel then introduced me to my first 5K, the Lafayette Oatmeal Festival. I loved the community of running with lots of people, and it encouraged me to start working toward longer distances. I've learned that by taking baby steps and not giving up, you can truly reach your goals. This year I plan to run my first 10 miler, the Aetna Park-to-Park. It's something I never thought I could do! I've enjoyed participating with Luna Chix the past two years I look forward to another season!
I have loved running since elementary school. I ran track in middle school and early high school. I switched to cross country and fell in love with long distance running. During college, my friends and I did track workouts and long runs around town together. My favorite race in Denver is the Park to Park 10 Miler over Labor Day. I have completed three 1/2 marathons and hope to complete more this summer/fall. I have been a Luna Chix participant for the last 2 seasons and am excited to be part of the team again this season. Outside of running, I am a kindergarten teacher, love to read children's books, drink chai tea, travel with friends, and spend time with my family, 2 cats, and 3 dogs.
