Local News from the Road
Social Butterfly I am not; Triathlete I am
I recently moved to a new town after having lived in the same place for 10 years. The DC area in general has always felt like a really hard area to meet new friends. I have met plenty of wonderful friends in the last 10 years but with time, they always end up moving away, whoa is me ; ) So, moving to a new area was definitely intimidating for me. I tried to get settled as quick as I could. I’m training for Savageman so I was pretty anxious about finding a solid running route, a challenging bike route and a pool to swim in. At the same time, I really want to get out and meet people soon so I’ll have people to explore Annapolis with. I have to say that having an interest in triathlons or running, biking and swimming has totally helped me settle in and meet people. The very first time I went to the pool I met someone who stopped me to as about the race shirt I was wearing. From there I had an invitation to swim and run with a few people. The next time I went to the pool I met a group of people working out together and had an invitation to do some open water swimming over the weekend. These people are so open and friendly! Naturally I stopped in at the local running shop to ask about group runs. I hope to meet a group for a run and a beer tomorrow. I have met so many people in the past few weeks all because of my workouts! Triathletes are the bees knees. If your not keen on the workouts or the sport what about the social aspect? Fantastic!
