A Few Weeks Off…

My husband and I went on an epic vacation… 3 weeks off work!  We went to Italy and on a Greek Isles cruise.  It was incredible.  We got back late last night.

And now I need to get back to training.  It is really hard to get back into the swing of things after a few weeks off.  Sure, I worked out a bit while on vacation.  I did a couple spinning classes and a few boot camps on the ship.  And I walked a TON every day.  But I also ate a lot and got completely out of my routine.  I’m not sure I even want to know how much weight I gained!

I am proud of myself that I went to the gym and worked out with my trainer today.  And I just signed up for a spinning class tomorrow.  Getting back on track is really difficult for me, so I find that I have to make appointments in order to get my workouts in.  Getting back to running is the most difficult for me, probably because it is my least favorite.  It is also the only aspect of training that I almost exclusively do on my own.  I am accountable to other people for everything else – I go to scheduled swim practices, group bike rides or spinning classes, and boot camps or appointments with my trainer.

But running… I try to get to track practice once a week, but otherwise I typically do my runs on my own on my basement treadmill while watching bad TV.  And once I get out of my routine, it is difficult to pick it back up.  So I’m putting it out here in the blogosphere that I will run twice this week.  And next week I will be back to my normal routine of three runs a week.  Getting back on track is hard, but it is much easier with some accountability!
