Local News from the Road
She Swims. She Bikes. She Runs. She ROX.
This past weekend, the Chicago LUNA Chix kicked off their season with a bang. On Friday night, there was a meet and greet at the local Lifetime Fitness with the LUNA Chix where the ladies were able to talk to participates about the race, what Team LUNA Chix is all about, and get excited for the race on Sunday. Saturday, was a day filled with the Expo. With our tent set up beside the LUNA tent filled with LUNA samples, it was the place to be! Ladies went from making signs, to trying LUNA bars, to learning about who we were. Our team handed out many fliers about our Monday night runs and Wednesday night rides, and got everyone excited about racing in the morning. We also had an amazing raffle basket and sold some LUNA water bottles, all for the Breast Cancer Fund. It was a huge success!! When the sun came up on Sunday morning, the energy was pouring out in Naperville. People of all ages and walks of life, were ready to race on what was going to be a hot day with not a cloud in the sky. This year 6 LUNA’s participated in the race. Sara, Waddler, and Dawn were on a relay, and ended up getting 5th place! Sara had a solid swim, followed by Waddler blazing on her new bike, and finished it off with a PR for Dawn in the 5k! Way to go ladies. Then, came the individuals who did the entire race. This year, Snips, Bernadette, and Kim rocked the swim, bike, and run. While Snips and Bernadette both say they “participate” in the races, we all know they are racing. And doing so with a smile on their face. Kim dominated her hometown course, and finished 10th in her age group. She was blazing out there!! I couldn’t be more proud of my teammates. What a day the LUNA’s had. As for me (Michelle), I was there to cheer from the minute the sun came up, until the minute the ladies finished, since I was sidelined due to a bike accident earlier in the week. While it was hard not being on the start line, I had a blast cheering everyone on! Katherine also biked over to the race just to cheer. What dedication. All and all, it was a great weekend, at an amazing race. This race inspires me that no matter what walk of life you’re in, it’s possible to get up, train hard, and complete a triathlon. All it takes is a little belief in yourself, the willingness to try, and the courage to keep a smile on your face. Congratulations again to all those who participated in SheROX! And, here’s to a amazing season to come! COMMENTS |
