Palos Half Marathon
The thermometer read a brisk 39 degrees when I woke up this morning. As I was packing up a bag to take to the Palos Bank Southwest Half Marathon, I couldn’t decide what to wear. I knew the day was predicted to see temperatures in the 70s, but surely it wouldn’t get that warm before I was finished running this half marathon! As most will tell you, I run cold, so I packed up gloves and my thin Luna cap and was wearing pants and an underarmor shirt under my short sleeved dri fit shirt. There wasn’t much time and we didn’t even get a group shot before the race. The sun rose fast and the rays came down making me warm before I even got to gear check. I quickly dumped the underarmor, but I was stuck with the long pants. The gloves - oh yeah, I was keeping those. I traded my Luna cap for a visor to help keep the bright sun out of my eyes. It was turning out to be a beautiful day for a run. I wished my fellow Luna teammates luck - Liz coming back from a series of obstacles that have kept her from serious training - and Mel N. who was really using this as a training run in preparation for her first IRONMAN. I planned for a pace and stuck pretty close to it. I’ll put more details on my personal blog: How Far Is That Ironman? The fans were a little scarce, but the out and back course allowed me to see all my friends (for the most part) at one time or another. It was truly fun as I knew so many people at this local event. All the Lunas finished with great times and smiles on their faces. Perfect day for a run! |
