When it comes to women-owned businesses, there are quite a few in Chicago. In fact, every time I pick up a copy of Time Out Chicago to scan The Get section, I feel like I’m reading about yet another whether it’s a new store opening or a business-owner profile. While new openings are great and all, it’s a tried-and-true favorite that’s getting the recognition as a local favorite. It’s women-owned, it focuses on training women for multisport and it keeps tabs on other women-owned businesses, especially those with a sports link, to share with its community of athletes. Meet Max Multisport Coaching.
Now you could say that I’m partial to listing Max Multisport Coaching as a favorite because I coach with them. But really, it’s more because Max is a company that the LUNA Chix can strive to be like, especially since we’re just starting out in this big city. And Max is just a cool company because they’ve managed to get lots of women active in multisport, offer a bevy of training programs year-round for whatever type of athlete you are or want to become, and they’ve been growing since 2003 when Renee Schneidewind started the company to fill a void in women-specific training in the city. Success? Yes.
Here’s a bit about Max Multisport Coaching:
Their mission is to “help women of all abilities build confidence and maximize their athletic potential through multisport.”
They offer group training programs, one-on-one coaching, classes, camps, and group practices that cover the sports of triathlon, cycling, running, swimming and adventure racing.
They use the Heart Zones Methodology for training, which has you train off your heart rate and training loads to keep the athlete progressing and peaking to reach her goals.
They make sure that everyone feels part of the group regardless of how fast or slow, experienced or inexperienced, you might be, and coaches never leave anyone lagging behind.
They know their stuff when it comes to multisport and can’t point you in the right direction for useful resources around the city.
They love LUNA bars—they’re sponsored by LUNA and have the products available to athletes at practices.
And they have programs starting soon for events happening around the city this summer. Need a training program for the Chicago Triathlon and don’t want to be outnumbered by the guys? Have a half marathon you don’t want to train for alone? Want to learn how to swim or practice your stroking skills? Check out Max Multisport Coaching for the upcoming programs.
