Fun First Skills Clinic at Buck’s

We laughed. We rode. We braved the bathroom at Buck’s! In what was our most well-attended clinic yet, 18 women showed up on a sunny morning to Buck’s Landing in San Rafael on May 19 to learn the basics of mountain biking: braking, cornering, climbing/descending, obstacles and some great tricks to help them build confidence and, more importantly, have FUN on the trails!

After going over the basics as a group and helping everyone understand how to properly check bikes for safety and prep for rides, we split into four smaller groups so everyone could spend time at different stations working on the aforementioned skills. There were about two LUNAs per station so we could really spend quality time with each rider, working on their skills.

It was awesome to witness such fast improvement among everyone there … but even better was the genuine camaraderie that grew quickly in the group. We knew there would be varying skill sets and different levels of athletic ability among riders, but everyone learned something that day and were able to push their relative comfort levels up a notch or two.

A special shout out to the teens who attended—they were fantastic—it was totally fun to see a wide range of ages and backgrounds get together and share in a fun day that helped us raise major $$ for The Breast Cancer Fund! We hope all of our recent graduates return to ride with us on our Wednesday rides and keep in touch.
