Meet the team

We are a group of 8 women who are interested in running, having fun, and overall well-being.  The goal of the Austin Run Team is to promote wellness, encourage friendly competition, increase the fitness level of the women of Austin, while raising money for the Breast Cancer Fund.  Come join us for runs, social events, and clinics. (Our season is April-October.)

Why I run: I run in the hopes that one day I can eat as much candy as I want and it won’t affect me. That hasn’t happened yet, but I am convinced it will one day.
Favorite running Event: My favorite distance is the Half Marathon and favorite race is Decker Challenge.
Favorite running piece of running apparel: My running skirt!!
race ritual: I wake up early, eat peanut butter toast with a banana and a strawberry energy drink in bed and then get ready.
I love running with: Friends!
I hate running without: My music...I have a new playlist every couple weeks and am constantly on the search for new music.
When I'm not running you could find me: Hanging out with my friends and family, traveling, or trying out the newest dessert place in Austin.
Running changed my life by: Running has allowed me to be the best version of myself.
Favorite flavor of Luna bar: Peanut Butter Cookie

Why I run: It's my happy pill. Whether I've had a good day or a bad day, when I run I always get a sense of peace.
Favorite Event or Activity: My favorite distance is the half marathon, but I get more satisfaction from the marathons. All those months of training finally come down to that one big day. It's hard to replicate that feeling of accomplishment, regardless of whether I've met my goal or not.
Favorite Running Apparel: n/a (I'm the worst when it comes to running apparel!)
Pre Race Ritual: I wake up super early and relax in front of my laptop with black coffee and good tunes.
Who I like to run with: anyone!
Things I can't run without: GPS
Things I like to do when I'm not running: On the computer with headphones blaring techno or jazz.
How running has impacted me: It's definitely brought me out of my introverted shell and made me more social.

Why I run: Running keeps me - and makes me - happy. It's the perfect answer to a stressful day or when I just need to think things through. It's also the only way to justify all the pizza and snacks I want to eat! Favorite running event: My favorite distance is the Half Marathon, but my favorite race is the Texas Independence Relay - 2 days in a van with 11 other people running all day and night = the most fun I've ever had at a race! Favorite piece of running apparel: ProCompression socks in bright colors and a running skirt. Pre-race ritual: I choose my outfit the day before and have everything laid out ready to go. I wake up early (probably way too early!), have peanut butter and banana toast with a cup of coffee, and get ready to meet up with friends at the start line! I love running with: Friends! Or, if I have to run alone, the sunrise. I hate running without: Music/podcasts (if I'm running solo). I have a bunch of ever-changing playlists for faster days and subscribe to multiple podcasts for days I want to do a longer slower run. When I'm not running you can find me: spending time with friends, trying every Mexican restaurant and pizza place in Austin, and coming up with new strength workouts. Running changed my life by: Running opened me up to trying new things and meeting amazing people. I never dreamed I would run a half-marathon or train for a full, or meet so many of my closest friends through running - now I don't know what I would do without them! Running helped me become an even better version of myself! Favorite flavor of LUNA bar: Chocolate Dipped Coconut or S'mores.

Why I run: I run for the love of running.
Favorite running event: Half marathons are my favorite, but I love the challenge of a full marathon. My favorite race is Nike Women's race in San Francisco.
Favorite running piece of running apparel: My sports bra
Pre race ritual: I LOVE eating a hamburger and French fries.
I love running with: Any willing person!!
I hate running without: My Nike GPS watch
When I'm not running you could find me: Hanging out with my family and friends
Running changed my life by: Running has allowed me to do what I thought was impossible. It also allows me to be a better person to my family.

Why I run: I originally started for a new hobby to fill time, that was 6 years ago. Now I run for my sanity, to set and reach goals, and to keep fit.
Favorite Event or Activity: My favorite distance is half marathon, my favorite race is the 3M half.
Favorite Running Apparel: earring. Don't laugh, I always run with earrings on
Pre Race Ritual: I wake up super early, shower, and eat. I don't usually shower before I run, but on race days I do, weird, I know
Who I like to run with: I like a good mix of solo running and running with friends.
Things I can't run without: a good sports bra
Things I like to do when I'm not running: Live Music (We live in the Live Music Capital of the World!), enjoying good food, volunteering, working with my Girl Scout troop, cross-training, and travel.
How running has impacted me: It's lead me meet some amazing people and form some great relationships. Plus it has brought me closer to my mom, sister (Stacey K), and best friends, who have all taken up running after seeing how it's changed my life.
My Favorite Luna Bar Flavor: Chocolate Cherry Almond Protein Bar. I love that the protein bars are gluten-free!

Why I run: For the "me time" when I run by myself and for the "let's get caught up time" with friends. Favorite running event: 3M, Shiner "Beer Run" half. Favorite running apparel: Running skirt. Pre race ritual: Eat a Luna Bar one hour before the start of the race. I love running with: Friends. I hate running without: My Garmin. When I'm not running you can find me: Cheering for my husband during Tri season. Running changed my life by: Running has given me new life. There's the obvious fitness aspect but the bonds that have formed from new relationships and the reconnection of old friends will forever be a part of me. Favorite flavor of Luna Bar: Chocolate Rasberry Fiber Bar.
