Have you ever driven to the pool but ended up at the car wash?
Swimming. Sometimes it takes an act of God to get to the pool not to mention getting IN the pool. Last summer while I was nearing the end of my training for the South Carolina half ironman, I found myself wanting to do anything but swim. I knew I needed to get to the pool and swim for 30 to 45 minutes. I put on my bathing suit, left for the pool, pulled into the gym parking lot, parked my car, sat there for a minute, and then put the car in reverse and went to the car wash down the street. And you know what? I felt great! It was the best decision I made all day. Car wash! It reminds me of being back in law school and studying for finals. The times I needed to study the most I would’ve rather cleaned out my closet, organized my shoes, dusted the baseboards, etc. Sometimes I did and when I finally sat down to study I was more focused and productive. It’s easy for us to be hard on ourselves when it comes to following our “training” schedules. I realized that going to the car wash was what my body needed that day…and so did my car! The next day I looked forward to getting in the pool and had a great swim workout. If this has happened to you, where did you end up?
