I grew up swimming competitively, and swam for NC State. After college, I needed a break from swimming and that's when I tried running. With running I like having a choice to have solitude or run with a friend. Some of my closest friendships have stemmed from social runs where we talked through life's problems! While social running keeps me happy, I can't turn off my competitive drive and need to run a few races each year to stay motivated. This year I plan to do at least one 10k, half and full marathon, and who knows, maybe I'll try another triathlon or compete in an open-water swimming event!
I started running in high school and have been enjoying it ever since. Running became my exercise of choice through college when I started participating in races and ran my first half marathon. I enjoy running local 5k and 10k races, and I recently got hooked on triathlons.
I have been running since I can remember. I grew up running community 5k races then as an adult moved into 10k, half-marathon and marathon distances. In 2008 I added sprint distance triathlons to my race calendar. 2009 I completed several sprints, two olympics and two half ironman distances. I'm the mother of four really active kids (blended family) and I love seeing Moms make time to set an example for their kiddos!! Running is a big part of my life and I love to get others hooked. It doesn't matter how far you go, how long you do it or how old you are - just get out there and move!!!
A self proclaimed "non runner" who couldn't even finish a mile in high school, I dabbled in running in my late 20s and took it up more seriously after my son was born 3 years ago. I ran my first half marathon in November 2011, and my second in March of this year. Running, for me, is a great personal challenge and the best stress relief I've found. It's my escape from the rigors of motherhood and it gives me precious "me time." I enjoy road running, trail running, yoga, Zumba, strength training, and anything outdoors. I love being healthy and active - it's good for the body AND the soul!
I started distance running about 7 years ago and fell in love (and stride) with the half marathon and try to compete in 2-3 each year. I trained for my first full marathon while in school at Indiana University, and have been running races ever since. I have recently gotten hooked into sprint triathlons and am starting to train for my first half Ironman this spring!
I am fairly new to running. I never thought I could be a runner, I never felt like I had it in me. But, my husband inspired me to get started with very small goals, like running around the block. Now, I run almost everyday and love it!! I enjoy participating in all types of races, from 5Ks to half marathons and Triathlons. This year I plan on working on speed and training for a half Iron Man in Augusta! I am super excited to co-lead the group this year!
I started running in Middle School and immediately fell in love and have been running ever since. While I have been running various distances for quite sometime, it wasn't until 2009 that I got into the marathon distance. I'm looking forward to training for my third marathon this fall. Because I love helping others get started running or achieve whatever running goals they have set for themselves, I obtained my RRCA coaching certification. I am currently expecting my first child (due date is March 15th) and have my jogging stroller ready to go! I'm very excited to be a part of such a great group of women!
I ran track in high school and I have been active running, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors ever since. I love to run 5k, 10k and the occasional half marathons.
Couch potato with no athletic ability started kickboxing for cardio to loose weight in 2008. A co-worker suggested I sign up for a sprint triathlon in 2009. First time on a road bike I wobbled mostly and banged my knees pretty good from falling. I still do the panic dogie paddle in the water and sheer will gets me through the runs. Three sprint Triathlons, One Olympic, and a Half Iron man later I still cant believe I cross the finish line. Inspiring other woman to conquer their fears and obtain their goals is my passion. The biggest lesson I learned is your body is inherently lazy but your body is never tired if your mind does not tire. Update to 2012, You can doggie paddle through an Iron Distance Swim. Get the base miles in to Run a Marathon and really enjoy it, and do a Century ride or two. Just believe and get out there and do it.
