Splash and Dash - all fun

Unfortunately Hurricane Irene forced us to change the date of our annual Splash and Dash from August 28 to Sept. 10.  The good news is that the weather could not have been better!  The water in the lake is really high now, but clean and clear and not too cold.  The team headed up the hill early to set the swim and run course, get registration set, water tables up and all the other pre-race fun stuff.  We had tons of help from husbands and children which made it fun and quick.  Our fantastically fun athletes started arriving and enjoying the scene.  The music was rocking as wetsuits were donned.  We all got in the water for a quick debrief and to thank everyone for their support of the Breast Cancer Fund.  Kerry and Mary were concerned that Kristen (as the swim angel) would be hounding them about their stroke technique!  I let them go and hung out with Mary.  Jenn was one of our lifeguards in a kayak and we (Jenn, Mary and Kristen) had a great chat while covering a 1/2 mile swim.  Even those less confident swimmers did well in the water and exited ready to run.  Part of the run course was freshly paved.  The sun was out, but it was not too hot, so everyone had a great run.  All participants had a cheering section at the finish.

The kids were all there yelling words of encouragement.  We actually had so many kids that we decided to do an impromptu kid’s run.  They did a quick out and back (and yes they ran quick!).  Each one got a Ahnu lip balm as a prize.

Aaron and the Tinney’s team put out another great lunch - pulled pork sandwiches and yummy salads.  Of course we had LUNA bars too.  We have some fun prizes - oldest, youngest, and most endurance.  We raffled some Ahnu socks and protein bars which were a big hit.  Thanks to Ahnu we were also able to raffle off a pair of Ahnu performance shoes - - big excitement around that one.  Virginia was the big winner and we were all giving her Ahnu shoe recommendations!

The team loves this event and although it was smaller than we had hoped it was still a fantastic event.  We thank those of you who were able to participate.  We and the Breast Cancer Fund also thank those of you who said your entry fee was a donation even though you could not join us!  We’ll be there next year and hope you will be too.  Check out the gallery for photos.  Thanks to Colleen for taking the pictures.
