Local News from the Road
Good night Irene
She is gone and we, in the Northeast, are thankful. For many near rivers and creeks the clean up will take a long time. Irene was a tropical storm by the time it reached us, but the constant rain and winds did PLENTY of damage. In some areas in upstate NY they had 13 inches of rain -measure that out - it is insane. With rains like that the rivers, creeks and streams rose way above their banks and took anything in their path. The state of Vermont was hit especially hard. Almost every major road in the state was damaged and towns were literally ravaged. Historical covered bridges were taken away in literally seconds. It was heartbreaking to watch. As a kid my Grandmother would take me to covered bridges in Mass. and Vermont. She just loved them and I always had to agree they were special. As a result of Irene we had to postpone our Splash and Dash fun raiser (yes purposeful typo) until Sept. 10. As those of us who escaped unscathed give thanks we reach out to help those affected. My boys packed up clothes and toys to donate to families who lost everything - their homes, their toys, their clothes. People will rebuild, but not quickly forget the power of Mother Nature. As triathletes we love spending time in the great outdoors. We value our lakes and roads. After a storm like this that value increases a bit. Spread the word about our Splash and Dash - email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for entry information. Come enjoy the great outdoors and help us raise money for the Breast Cancer Fund. COMMENTS |
