I have been involved in fitness in the Capital District for nearly 25 years. In October of 2010, my good friend and spin instructor, Tracy Perry, was holding a training class for the Mohawk Towpath Duathlon. Being a cyclist for nearly a decade, I was ready for the challenge even though I had never run for a purpose in my life. Surviving this event and actually enjoying myself I decide to try out the swim. In the spring of 2011, I joined the YMCA Tri program and upon completion, I was hooked on multi-sport events. In 2012, I completed over 15 events ranging from 5k's, the Tough Mudder and my first 70.3. 2013 holds in store multiple 70.3's, my first full marathon in Lake Placid in hopes of preparing myself for the ultimate Lake Placid Full Ironman in 2014 before I turn 50! Being a member of Team LUNA chix, I will have the opportunity to pass along my passion for a challenge as well as "Pay It Forward" raising awareness and funds for the breast cancer fund! My Motto "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"

Eileen has been involved in sports from an early age. She played field hockey, basketball and softball in high school. Eileen attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and competed on the basketball and softball team for Army. She has been running road races for over 30 years. While in the Army she competed in several sprint triathlons. Her interest in triahlons was rekindled when her son joined the Army Triathlon team 4 years ago. She enjoys staying fit and helping other women ignite their excitement about fitness. Beating Breast Cancer 10 years ago was one of her greatest accomplishments. Being on a LUNA Chix team and supporting the Breast Cancer Fund is very important to her now.

At age 50 Karen decided she wanted to do something to get more fit. Having never really been an athlete she was trying to decide what to do when her brother in law, who was training for triathlons asked her to join him on his bike rides. She became hooked. The next year she entered her first sprint triathlon and placed 3rd in her age group. Since then she has competed every year in multiple triathlons from sprint to half IM, and has placed in her age numerous times. She became interested in the cause of the Luna Chix and started volunteering for many of their events. Since 2011 she has been a proud member of the Albany Triathlon Team LUNA Chix.

Kristen Hislop

Kristen started doing triathlons in Colorado in the early 90's and hasn't stopped. After moving to the Capital District region she got involved in coaching triathletes at the YMCA and for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. In 2010 she became a USA Triathlon certified coach. She absolutely loves getting women involved in the sport of triathlon. We have all kinds of fun plans for the triathlon season and want to educate women on the sport, teach them about fueling with great nutrition products from LUNA, and raise money for a great cause - the Breast Cancer Fund.

Kristen Long

Kristen has always had a love for athletics and the outdoors. She participated in several sports as a young adult, including ski racing at the collegiate level and competing horses as an eventer for several years. After Kristen and her husband began their family, she was missing the gratification of training hard towards a personal goal, not to mention the thrill of competition. Kristen always had an enormous admiration for triathletes, so in the spring of 2011 she signed up and began training for her first triathlon. In the summer of 2012 Kristen placed in the top five in her age group in many of her events. She is looking forward to a fun and successful summer of training and competing this year, with her sights set on a 70.3 in late August. Kristen's sister, Liz, has been a huge inspiration to "go for it" as Liz battled breast cancer in 2004 and beat it with amazing strength and grace. Kristen is honored to be a part of Team LUNA Chix...raising money for the Breast Cancer Fund and encouraging other women to get out there and "tri' it!

Lonnie was a runner in high school, competing in both cross country and track. In college, Lonnie pursued all natural body building and competed in all natural competitions, winning two overall women's titles. During this time, Lonnie got back into running and took up cycling. She dreamed of doing a triathlon, but couldn't get passed her fear of the swim. Although Lonnie remained active over the years, it wasn't until three years ago that she decided to make her 20 year dream of competing in a triathlon come true. Lonnie competed in her first triathlon and took third place in her age group...she was hooked. Since then, Lonnie has competed in several triathlons and road races. This year she plans to compete in her first half iron man triathlon and run a marathon. Lonnie is a health educator and a leader in New York State health education. She is passionate about encouraging and inspiring women to become more active and reach their fitness goals. Lonnie is thrilled to be a part of the Albany Triathlon Team LUNA Chix.

Paula DeVantier

Paula was not an athlete in high school but decided to try her stamina at a half marathon at the age of 46. She joined a gym, signed up for a trainer, and achieved her goal after just 1 year. Paula wanted another challenge, but another marathon was not the answer. Her trainer suggested the triathlon class at the local YMCA. Paula signed up and was coached by Kristen Hislop, leader of the Albany Triathlon team. Even after swallowing all the water in the pool after the first swim class Paula was hooked. The summer of ’09 was her first season and she competed in 5 triathlons! Paula loves the camaradarie of the sport and has met a great group of people while improving her swimming, biking and running ability. Joining LunaChix, which promotes getting women involved in sports and the awareness of breast cancer, hits home for Paula. Her mom passed away from breast cancer in 2003. Paula looks forward to getting women on the roads and in the pool having fun and getting in shape while fighting the war on breast cancer.

Tammy started racing 5k's 8 years ago as a way to get in shape after having her first child and progressed to 10k's, 15k's and half marathons. After the birth of her second child 4 years ago she developed horrible knee pain. An orthopedists said she would never run more than 5 miles again due to the lack of cartilage in her knee and should start cross training. Taking 4 months off from running and attending physical therapy, that's when she discovered the sport of triathlon. In her second year competing in triathlon's Tammy completed 6 triathlons - placing in several of them - 2 sprints, 3 olympics and a half ironman. She was hooked! She also completed her first marathon - so much for never running more than 5 miles again! Tammy has since done a marathon each year, and will be doing a full ironman in 2013! Tammy currently coaches for the Triathlon Training Program at the Southern Saratoga YMCA and is a running coach. Tammy also is an avid yogini and is a certified yoga instructor. She is thrilled to be a member of the Albany Luna Chix Triathlon Team.
